about the artist

Lucille Groleau is a 26-year-old self-taught multidisciplinary artist and queer trans woman, driven by a lifelong passion for art and creation from Portland, Oregon, now based in Seattle, Washington. She began her professional journey in 2016, shortly after finishing high school, immersing herself in the study of painting and exploring the transformative effects it could have on her spirit. After several years working in acrylics, she transitioned to oils in 2020, discovering a profound connection to the medium that reshaped her artistic approach. Her style evolved from vibrant, semi-abstract pastels to a more muted, romantic, and subtly impressionistic aesthetic that brings a new depth to her storytelling.

Today, Lucille works as a tattoo artist, and as a trans person finding harmony within her own body, she finds immense joy in helping others feel more at home in theirs through art. She is passionate about creating work that fosters meaningful connections and allows her to explore my relationship with the world around her. Her goal is to create art that both reflects and deepens her understanding of these connections.

Lucille has been drawing her whole life, art is the one thing she remembers always doing, it's what she gravitated to early on and she kept doing without thinking much of it. She has taken art specific classes at middle school and high school, with a semester of basic drawing class at community college. She has since continued to learn about and make art through her own means and resources.

Lucille started posting her art to social media in 2019. Right now she makes art because it makes her feel at peace, it keeps her going when there may be no other reasons.

Lucille would describe her style as "feminist existentialism". She likes to portray ideas that relate to that, such as societal constructs, the absurdity of life, the pain of being stuck in a corporeal form, and copping with the idea of death.

Lucille is inspired by women and strength, grace, and beauty they exude. She is constantly inspired by crows, she's never been so enamored by a presence such as theirs. She is inspired by how it feels to have someone show you they love you.

Lucille sees herself still painting for the remainder of her life, or at the very least still expressing herself artistically. She hopes to keep exploring creatively and deepening her relationship with her creative process.
